Enjoy a relaxing and informative culinary event, hosted by a larger-than-life personality! Throughout this 1.5-hour experience you will learn the authentic Alaskan ways to handle fish including catching, filleting, preserving, and grilling. After enjoying the professional filleting demonstration, you will get to try a sample of the “catch of the day” cooked over a custom-made alder-wood grill. Next up, sit down and enjoy a tasting menu which can include fresh and canned salmon dishes, grilled halibut and seasonal herbs and vegetables. One alcoholic beverage is included. You will depart this excursion with a printed copy of the recipes, great stories of living in remote Alaska and an appreciation of what it takes to prepare and cook delicious Alaska seafood.

Discovering Birds of Hoonah
Join a local expert to explore the avian diversity of southeast Alaska’s lush temperate rainforest and its surrounding tidal area. Your guide will show you the best places to scope for seabirds, ducks, gulls, bald eagles, and other local favorites. As you depart Icy Strait Point, travel along the shore of Port Frederick where you will see seabirds feeding in the nutrient rich waters. You will have the opportunity to stop and scope the surrounding area for pigeon guillemots and other gulls, ducks, and seabirds. Before heading out to the Long Island causeway, your guide will include a brief stop at an active bald eagle’s nest, located high up in a Cottonwood tree. Throughout this area, scan for shorebirds, ducks, eagles, crows, ravens, cormorants, and much more. Next up on your adventure, your guide will lead your small group down a trail through mixed forest and grasslands to find a wealth of passerines. Along the trail, you may find warblers, sparrows, flycatchers, jays, woodpeckers, sapsuckers, wrens, kinglets, swallows, swifts, hummingbirds, creepers, chickadees, and thrushes. Binoculars scopes will be provided. Whether you are an avid birder or a casual birdwatcher, your guide will help you get the most out of your Alaska experience.

Hoonah Sightseeing & Culture Experience
Delve into the fascinating history behind the Indigenous Tlingit community as you explore Icy Strait Point’s nearby village of Hoonah. Travel through the small Chichagof Island fishing village, learning the rich oratory traditions and hunter-gatherer culture among the “people of the tides”, as your guide expounds on the group’s art, spirituality, and cuisine. Your tour ticket includes access to the Heritage Center for a Culture Experience Show.

Seafood Feast & Culture Experience
Enjoy a seafood feast with a breathtaking view of stunning Port Frederick. This delectable feast includes shrimp and seasonal crab, boiled in Southern seasoning with corn on the cob, Andouille sausage, onions, mushrooms, potatoes, and garlic. After you eat your fill, relax at the fire pit, roast marshmallows, and make your own s’more’s before returning to your ship. Bottled water, coffee, and tea are included.

Mountain Top Forest Excursions
Elevate your Icy Strait Point experience with the only Mountaintop Gondola and tram ride experience in Southeast Alaska! Enjoy 360⁰ views! From the base of Icy Strait Point, you will ascend over 1,500 feet to the top of Hoonah Mountain in a state-of-the-art gondola with views from all sides. At the mountaintop, board an open-air tram for a six-mile, roundtrip journey through old-growth forest. Sitka Spruce, western hemlock, and wildflowers line the road on your way past a mountain lake. Your guides will describe the ecological and cultural significance of the forest’s unique plants and animals, and how the island’s Tlingit people are bound to its rich landscape. Bring your camera to capture pictures from spectacular viewpoints overlooking Spasski Valley, the snow-capped mountains surrounding Port Frederick, and the city of Hoonah.
