Alaska's Wildest Kitchen is a hands-on tasting session hosted by a colorful Alaska fisherwoman and master wilderness chef. Experience wild, natural, and sustainable Alaska seafood as only Alaskans do while learning what sets Alaska seafood apart, including local fishing, preserving, and cooking techniques. Later, you’ll watch an expert filleting demonstration and even get a chance to grill your own sample catch-of-the-day over our alder-wood grill.
All seafood is harvested by local fishermen in nearby waters so the freshness can’t be beat! The tasting menu may include fresh and canned salmon dishes and grilled halibut. One alcoholic beverage and printed recipe cards are included in the cost of the tour. Wine and Alaskan Brewing Company beer are available for purchase.

Discovering Birds of Hoonah
Explore the avian diversity of Hoonah's lush temperate rainforest and its surrounding tidal waters with a local expert. Your guide will show you the best places to scope for seabirds, ducks, gulls, and bald eagles.
As you depart Icy Strait Point, travel along the shore of Port Frederick where you will see seabirds feeding in the nutrient rich waters. Stop at the ferry terminal and scope the surrounding area for pigeon guillemots and other gulls, ducks and seabirds. Make a brief stop at an active bald eagle’s nest before heading out the road to the Long Island causeway. Scan for shorebirds, ducks, eagles, crows, ravens, cormorants, and much more.
Then, your guide will lead your small group down a trail through mixed forest and grasslands to find a wealth of passerines. Along the trail, you may find warblers, sparrows, flycatchers, jays, woodpeckers, sapsuckers, wrens, kinglets, swallows, swifts, hummingbirds, creepers, chickadees, and thrushes. Binoculars, rain jackets, and the highest quality spotting scopes will be provided. Whether you are an avid birder or a casual birdwatcher, your guide will help you get the most out of your Alaska experience.
